We are Off

Ok so it is 9am and we are ready to rock and roll our way to Darkhan. We have been in UB for the week doing medical stuff...we are both healthy and cavity free (for once)...and working on our training schedule. It is going to be a very busy time for the new PCTs but i think it will be 100 times better than our training was, or at least the technical sessions that jesse and I are doing. : )

We are training up in Sukhbataar which is right on the russian boarder. Supposed to be pretty but it is 2 hours each way so a little bit of a trek three days a week.

The newbies come on June 5th. There are a ton of volunteers to come up and welcome them at the airport. The M15 did it for us last year and it was crazy. Quite the welcome.

Ok we are loading up our car so i gotta go but will send some updates soon.

We are going to visit host families soon so that should be wierd and mostly good i think.

Cheers.

Sorry I have lagged so far behind in keeping up with the posts and commenting. Today is the last day of school and while I'm waiting to finish some things I thought I'd log on and check in. You want stuff for school. Oh, you will have stuff for school. I'll get on the phone and start calling reps for all the major publishing companies and have them send things to me so that I can forward them on you. I'll call the Loars about sending a mail sack, so get ready. We collected high school books for a school in Africa but grade school materials are so much more fun. Now I feel really guilty for not checking sooner, we have many more things. Hugs to you both

So what kind of elaborate hazing rituals do you have in store for the new class of PCVs? Maybe a mare's milk chugging contest? How about drunken stumbling down the side of the mountain to get back home? Wood-chopping to see who can lose the fewest limbs? Fastest goat-milker? Twenty-four hours of non-stop boat-making (the edible kind, that is)?

What kinds of fun things do you all get to teach the new volunteers, now that you are such seasoned experts (one-year anniversary of being in Mongolia is only a week away - YIKES!)? Mongolia 101 - Making a ger a home. Mongolia 102 - Don't eat the red berries. They make you sick. Mongolia 103 - Mare's milk won't kill you (but it might!). Mongolia 210 - How not to chop off your fingers with an ax (does Jesse have to make up this session?). Mongolia 320 - That camel in your front yard is not a ride...it's DINNER. (Get over it!)

This is all very fun to think about. I hope you guys are having as much fun as I imagine you are in my head. I just took my last exam for the year, meaning I am officially a SENIOR in college. Scary, huh? Lots of news to report from my end - perhaps there will be an email in your near future. Until then, keep track of all your fingers and toes!

Virginia is for Lovers.
